You might not have heard of PortAventura when visiting Barcelona because it's actually in the resort town of Salou, near the lovely city of Tarragona, an hour's drive from Barcelona. PortAventura World, a giant theme park resort, (& by giant, we mean at par with Disneyland or Disney World) is replete with water adventures, three theme parks, including Ferrari Land, restaurants, shops and so much more. 

Since it opened in 1995, experts have consistently rated it among Europe's best theme parks, with The Times ranking it second overall. So, make sure it's on your list of must-see places when you visit Spain!

Things to know before you book your PortAventure World tickets

• If you’re looking to explore more than one park but are tight on budget, consider the multi-day pass. It offers better value than purchasing single park day tickets if you plan to visit multiple parks. Starting from €70, these passes offer flexibility with optional access to Ferrari Land and Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. However, transportation is not included.
• The 1-Day Pass can be your cheapest option, but remember, it limits you to one park per day. If you want to see more for less and have a few days at your disposal, go for the multi-day options. Starting from €21, this is also the most economical option for those planning a quick visit. You can access any of the parks — PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land, or Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. Like the multi-day pass, it doesn’t include transportation.
• Check for reduced prices for children and seniors, which are available on some tickets like the PortAventura Park & Ferrari Land with return transfers. Children aged between 4 and 10, and adults over 60 years can enjoy reduced-price tickets. Make sure you carry a valid photo ID).
• If you’re traveling from Barcelona and prefer everything pre-arranged, consider tickets with included transportation. Prices start from €59 for Costa Caribe and €71.10 for PortAventura Park. These include round-trip transportation.
• All tickets provide full access to rides and shows within the selected parks. However, not all tickets cover all three parks, so choose based on which parks you want to visit. Multi-Day and Full-Day Trips provide the most comprehensive access to attractions and are recommended for a thorough experience. For a spooky treat, visit during the Halloween season to catch special Halloween-themed shows and passages.
• Since food is not included in any tickets, plan your meals accordingly. There are multiple dining options within the parks like Marco Polo, Racó de Mar, Vinosfera (wine bar & restaurant), etc.

Events to not miss at PortAventura World!

PortAventura World hosts a range of events and shows all year long. From talking parrots in Aves del Paraíso to thousands of bubbles in Bubblebou, there's always something for entertainment. Here are some highlights to look out for:

Easter Season

Spring brings the Easter Celebration to PortAventura World, where you can welcome the warm weather with festive joy. From March 22 to May 17, explore new activities and enjoy extended hours of adventure.

Halloween

From September 21 to November 10, 2024, the park transforms into a haunted wonderland for Halloween. Special decorations, shows, and haunted houses will give you goosebumps and get you into the spooky spirit.

Christmas

PortAventura World celebrates the holiday season with festive events and shows from November 23, 2024, to January 6, 2025. Enjoy dazzling decorations, a parade featuring Santa Claus, and lively holiday music.

Can Can Show

The Can Can Show is an energetic performance that will make you blush! Inspired by the French, dancers in vibrant costumes entertain the audience with lively music and engaging acts.

Sesame Street Live

Kids will be thrilled to see their favorite Sesame Street characters in this live show. Elmo, Cookie Monster, and the whole gang sing and dance their way into children's hearts.

Tips to make the most out of your PortAventura World visit

• The best footwear option is athletic shoes, such as trainers or similar styles. You'll be on your feet all day, so choose something comfortable. Avoid high-heeled boots or shoes.
  If you prefer open footwear in summer, consider sandals that strap securely to your feet. While flip-flops are allowed on-site, they aren't permitted on some rides as they can fall off or get caught in the mechanisms, which is dangerous for you and other guests. Some rides have drawers where you can leave your flip-flops while you enjoy the attraction.
• Comfort is key at PortAventura World. Go for shorts, a T-shirt, or leggings, and choose lightweight materials like polyester. Although it doesn't breathe like cotton, it dries quickly and feels much lighter.
• If you prefer a bathing suit, keep in mind that swimwear is not allowed on some rides. In cooler seasons, bring a waterproof jacket or buy one at the park. It will keep your clothes dry both on rides and in rainy weather. For colder days, bring a jacket that’s warm but lightweight, so you can move around easily.
• Along with your clothing and footwear, don't forget about important accessories like sunglasses and a hat or cap to shield yourself from the sun. Carry a backpack or bag to hold everything you need, preferably one you can wear across your chest to avoid losing it. And remember to pack sunscreen, even if it's cloudy. UV rays can penetrate the clouds, putting you at risk of sunburn.
• Saturday and Sunday are the most popular days for families, so the park will generally be more crowded. It's better to visit during the week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday), as long as these days don't align with a public holiday. Check the school calendars in Spain and France, as many visitors come from these nearby areas. Expect the park to be busier in the summer, on long weekends, during Easter, and at special events like Halloween.
• A helpful tip for your visit to PortAventura World is to plan when you'll see the most popular attractions. Dragon Khan and Shambhala always draw big crowds. Visit them at lunchtime or early morning to have more time for other attractions. Check the information board to decide which ride to visit based on wait times, or consider an Express wristband to maximize your experience. Keep in mind the height restrictions. There are height restrictions for some rides, but no restrictions for others. For example, children who can walk can ride Furius Baco and Tami-Tami, but there is a 1.40-meter height restriction for El Templo del Fuego.
• When you visit PortAventura World, be sure to see the shows! While the rides are a highlight, the shows are just as spectacular. Arrive 20 minutes early to secure a seat. For unforgettable memories, watch the stunning fireworks display over the lake at night before the park closes, only in summer. Arrive early for the best view!
• Capture memories of your ride on Dragon Khan or your peak moment on Shambhala. Choose from photos, magnets, keychains, or USB wristbands. On rides with Videoride, you can even buy a DVD of your thrilling experience.
• Download digital photos! Consider adding the DigiPass service to download images of the wristband wearer throughout the day. Ask for photos at Photorides and download them from the website.
